🇩🇪 Several passengers were on the train: Unidentified man shoots at Berlin subway and escapes

An unidentified man fired a shot at a departing U8 subway train at Berlin’s Karl-Bonhoeffer-Nervenklinik station in Reinickendorf around 9 p.m. Thursday, police said; the projectile damaged a window but did not pierce it, and the shooter fled.

Several passengers were on board when the shot was fired, and the glass held. Authorities have disclosed no motive or other background.

Police are investigating and searching for the suspect, who remains at large. (Tagesspiegel, 1 minute read)

🇩🇪 Sirens wail in Berlin for the first time in more than 30 years

Berlin will sound warning sirens citywide for the first time in more than 30 years during Germany’s nationwide Warning Day on Sept. 11 at 11 am, testing over 200 newly installed units.

Berlin dismantled its network in 1993, but officials cite storms, power outages, cyberattacks, and war in Europe for rebuilding alert systems. About 200 sirens are active, short of goals; authorities plan 450 by year-end and 100-plus more within two years.

Residents should expect a one-minute wail at 11:00 and an all-clear at 11:45; officials aim to expand coverage to outer districts and finalize emergency plans after testing. (rbb24, 3 minute read)

🇩🇪 Construction work from September to December Major restrictions on regional rail services in Berlin and Brandenburg

Berlin-Brandenburg’s transit authority will fully close the Anhalter Bahn and adjacent routes from Sept 24 to Dec 13, 2025, disrupting lines RE3, RE4, RE8, RB24, RB32, and RB33; an added Berlin Hauptbahnhof–Südkreuz shutdown from Oct 24–Dec 13 extends impacts to RE5, RE85, and RB14.

Work centers on renewing the Südkreuz electronic interlocking and connecting to the new Dresdner Bahn. The long, wide-ranging closures will significantly constrain regional travel around Berlin and Brandenburg, especially for commuters using Brandenburg stations.

VBB will run extensive replacement buses; passengers should check updated timetables and route alternatives and expect longer journeys and crowding throughout the works, with normal service slated to resume after Dec 13, 2025. (Tagesspiegel, 1 minute read)
