🇩🇪 Fourth suspected Hamas terrorist identified in Berlin!

Germany's federal prosecutor confirmed a fourth suspect linked to a Berlin investigation into suspected Hamas members, and police searched his Treptow apartment overnight; no arrest was made.

On Oct. 1, investigators arrested three men during a weapons handoff in Moabit, seizing a Glock, an AK‑47, and hundreds of rounds. Prosecutors say the group planned attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany; the detainees were flown to Karlsruhe for federal proceedings.

Prosecutors will assess materials from the search and the earlier seizures, with decisions on charges and any further arrests expected as the investigation progresses. (B.Z. – Die Stimme Berlins, 2 minute read)

🇩🇪 "Long Night of Vaccination": These Berlin pharmacies are taking part

Berlin will hold its third "Long Night of Vaccination" on Oct. 8, with 370 partners across nearly all districts offering flu and COVID-19 shots until 10 p.m.

Australia’s winter suggests a strong flu season ahead, though Berlin logged eight flu cases last week, plus 149 COVID-19 and three RSV. Uptake is low among high‑risk groups—38% of over‑60s and 31% with chronic conditions—despite STIKO’s annual flu shot recommendation.

Health officials urge vaccinations now, with RKI recommending flu shots between October and mid-December; authorities will watch uptake from the Oct. 8 event and monitor respiratory virus trends into winter. (Berliner Zeitung, 2 minute read)

🇩🇪 Berlin Senate wants to flood three Nazi tunnels

Berlin officials inspected unfinished 1938 tunnels near the Tiergarten to evaluate converting them into water storage for combined-sewer retention, rainwater irrigation of the park, or Spree water, aiming to reduce sewage overflows into the Spree and Landwehr Canal.

The tunnels were started in 1938 under architect Albert Speer for the Nazi-era Germania plans but never completed and later sealed. With about 15 million liters of capacity, repurposing could cut annual overflow discharges by roughly 27% and provide irrigation for the Tiergarten.

Authorities will complete a feasibility review by autumn, target a 2026 decision, and must resolve a 300-meter link past a Deutsche Bahn long-distance tunnel of unknown depth, a pump-station relocation for the planned S21 line, and whether the deepest tunnel is economical.
