A German media investigation found serious security flaws in hotel management software from Gubse AG that exposed millions of guest records online, including Motel One customers and some lawmakers; the vendor has since patched the vulnerabilities.
IT collective Zerforschung alerted the vendor after finding interfaces that exposed up to 50 million profiles and 30 million reservations, some dating back 20 years. Data included names, addresses, phone numbers, partial credit card details, and ID numbers; Motel One and several youth hostels used the software.
Motel One says it is investigating and notifying guests, while youth hostel groups report no evidence of misuse; regulators may review the incident and potential GDPR obligations. (Berliner Zeitung, 3 minute read)
Berlin startup n8n raised $180 million from investors including Nvidia and Deutsche Telekom’s venture arms, valuing the no-code AI automation platform at $2.5 billion.
Now one of four AI unicorns in Germany, n8n’s valuation has jumped eightfold since March 2025 amid demand for no-code AI automation. The company reports a tenfold revenue increase in 2024 and customers such as Vodafone, SoftBank, and Seat.

A German critical infrastructure expert said recent arson attacks on power pylons—including a September strike in southeast Berlin that cut power to about 50,000 customers—require no specialized knowledge, as investigators have yet to identify suspects.
Publicly available grid maps can reveal vulnerable points, he said, arguing the real gap is insufficient redundancy and emergency management. Similar sabotage near Tesla’s Grünheide factory in March halted production, and September’s outage took roughly 60 hours to fully restore despite utility response.
Investigations continue as grid operators enhance protections and review contingency plans; experts urge investment in redundancy and drills to reduce outage impacts amid ongoing risks from politically motivated attacks and hybrid threats. (rbb24, 5 minute read)
