🏳️‍🌈 CSD Expands to Two Days

Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) will expand into a two-day event for the first time. Organizers announced a "Democracy Evening" at the Brandenburg Gate for Friday, July 24, 2026. It features political speeches and music ahead of the traditional Saturday parade. The expansion responds directly to extremist actions and aims to defend human rights. (WELT)

The entire pride weekend is explicitly tied to the upcoming September state elections. Under the slogan "Haltung ist hot" (Attitude is hot), organizers are utilizing dating and youth slang to mobilize turnout. The campaign encourages voters to protect democratic values and preserve Berlin's status as an open city for the queer community. (Tagesspiegel)

The focus on youth mobilization connects to a major electoral change in the capital. Under revised state laws, 16- and 17-year-olds are legally permitted to vote in the Berlin state elections for the first time. This newly enfranchised voting bloc makes engaging younger demographics a crucial element in upcoming civic campaigns. (Abgeordnetenhaus Berlin)

🦊 Aggressive Fox Kills Dog and Prompts Warnings

An aggressive fox in Berlin-Reinickendorf has repeatedly attacked dogs and occasionally owners since late January 2026, prompting a public alert. After one dog died following a bite, local authorities warned residents to stay vigilant in the Brusebergstraße and Klamannstraße neighborhoods. The most recent confirmed incident occurred on April 12. (rbb24)

District officials classify this as an isolated case involving a single animal with atypical behavior. The local government mandates that all dogs remain on a short leash to protect both pets and wildlife. Residents face strict prohibitions against feeding wild animals and must report any new sightings directly to the veterinary and food supervision office to help monitor the situation. (berlin.de)

Wildlife experts explain the fox is simply defending its territory and young, treating all dogs as natural threats. Relocating the two-year-old female is impossible because territorial foxes typically return to their habitat. Hunting regulations currently prevent authorities from removing the animal, leaving intervention up to police only if safety risks escalate. (Berliner Morgenpost)

🪙 Ancient Greek Coin Found In Spandau

A 13-year-old student discovered a rare 2,300-year-old Greek bronze coin in a field in Spandau. The State Monuments Office confirmed this 12-millimeter piece is the city's first-ever archaeological find from Greek antiquity (rbb24).

Minted in Ilion (ancient Troy) between 281 and 261 BC, the coin depicts the goddess Athena with a spear and spindle. While Roman artifacts appear occasionally in Berlin, this Hellenistic discovery represents a significant "scientific peculiarity" for researchers (B.Z. – Die Stimme Berlins).

The find occurred at an ancient burial site utilized across multiple eras, from the Bronze Age to Slavic periods. Researchers suggest the coin traveled north via Mediterranean trade routes for symbolic purposes and is now on public display at the Petri Berlin museum (Berliner Morgenpost).
